The Doctor

The Doctor

Another one thing I know about myself, it’s that I’m not the person who keeps websites alive. I can picture what I want, I can explain it, even sketch it—but when it comes to the wiring, the structure, and the mysterious digital pulse that keeps everything running… that’s not me.

That’s where The Doctor comes in.

The Doctor is the one who understands the system—how all the parts connect, how the engine runs, and how to keep the heart of As It Was Now And Then beating. They’re the caretaker of code, layout, updates, backups, and everything that keeps the book alive online.

And because that work takes real skill and time, I’ve applied the same 10 % model as The Illusionist: 10 % of all donations, up to a maximum of $50 000 per financial year.

It’s not a small job—especially early on—so it’s only fair that The Doctor is looked after too. In time, as the site settles and the work shifts from building to maintaining, that 10 % remains a thank-you for keeping the lights on.

Just like with The Illusionist, anything beyond the $50 000 cap moves into the Share Account, where it benefits everyone who helped this project grow.

So The Doctor isn’t just a technician—they’re a guardian. The one who keeps the spellbook open and the story alive.
